AWS OUTAGE LEAVES BAT IN POLE POSITION
That’s not me in the photo. But having played professional sport (Polo) for a few brief and unhappy years, I understand that you learn more when you lose and risk grows from victories. I kept on losing, so learned a lot, before chucking it in for the world of finance. But the learning remains.
As CEO I aim to fight the hubris of self satisfaction currently breaking out in my developer team.
BAT developer team are now suffering from winner-hubris complex – it’s everywhere.
The recent AWS outage did not affect client accounts on BAT. Just as well, since there are over 1,000 users, and about 100 at any one time logging in to find their customer’s information!
Well, we slapped each other on the back, congratulating ourselves on our high level of security, but as CEO I know that failure is part of business, and I must remain ever-vigilant in the cyber security world, especially now when the team is relaxing in their fleeting successes.
